Recruitment

Through our membership of the HAT Group of Accountants, we recruit ACA, ACCA and AAT trainees every year. The HAT Group comprises over fifty UK firms affording it the same market leverage as any of the large accountancy firms. Membership means that our excellent training is able to provide trainees with outstanding support usually only found in the very largest firms. With paid study leave and additional on-the-job training, all of our trainees are involved in client facing roles from the start of a job to its completion. Trainees learn how a business works and are able to develop a role within our firm, whether training to be ACA, ACCA, AAT qualified or management accountants. We’re keen to foster inter-personal as well as technical skills, encouraging everyone to feel part of everything we do.

But it’s not all work and no play at Shelley Stock Hutter. We know that to get the best out of people they need to be motivated, happy and confident in their role. Our offices are friendly and informal but highly professional with a genuine team spirit which spills over into our many social events, parties and team dinners. An open management structure means that everyone, including partners, are part of the team – and we all genuinely like each other. This supportive culture and stimulating environment encourages our people to do their very best, develop their skills and derive real fulfillment from their achievements. We’re proud that a number of our past and current trainees have won local and national prizes in their professional examinations.

Case Study: Richard Churchill

Richard Churchill, Partner at Shelley Stock Hutter LLP

Richard Churchill joined Shelley Stock Hutter LLP after graduating from the University of Warwick in 2000 with a degree in Maths and Physics. By April 2008, he had become a Partner.

Richard adds: “During my third year at Warwick, I had an interview with the firm and was offered a position straight away. I also had an interview at a larger accountancy practice but decided I wanted to work for a medium sized firm and I know that I made the right choice.

“Whilst quite a few of my peers opted to work for the larger firms I was keen to work somewhere less hierarchical, where you are recognised as an individual and can speak to the partners directly, regardless of the issue.

“I started in August 2000 and settled in really well. I took my exams over the next two and a half years and passed them all first time. The partners were great at giving me the support and flexibility to study, whilst also providing a mix of work which helped me to apply practically all that I was learning in my studies.
